Position Overview
Stoney Education Authority (SEA) is seeking a passionate and culturally grounded
Foods Program Teacher to join our dedicated team in Mînî Thnî. This position offers
a unique opportunity to blend Alberta’s CTS curriculum with Stoney Nakoda food
traditions, guiding students in developing cooking skills, nutritional knowledge, and
cultural connections.
This hands-on role emphasizes student wellness, career readiness, and cultural identity
through kitchen-based instruction, land-based learning, and collaborative community
projects.
Key Responsibilities
● Deliver engaging foods instruction that integrates traditional food knowledge,
including Indigenous perspectives on harvesting, preparation, and ceremony.
● Teach cooking, baking, meal planning, food safety, and nutrition literacy in
alignment with Alberta curriculum outcomes.
● Manage a well-equipped foods lab: inventory, supplies, kitchen safety, and
budgeting.
● Coordinate student participation in the SAIT Dual Credit Foods Program.
● Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, families, and colleagues to foster
culturally grounded, inclusive learning.
● Support events such as school feasts, food initiatives, and seasonal celebrations.
● Participate fully in school duties, professional learning, and SEA-wide initiatives.
Qualifications & Conditions
● Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
● Current Alberta Teaching Certification (or eligibility to apply).
● Experience or strong interest in Indigenous education, foods instruction, and
cultural integration.
