Stoney Education Authority (SEA) proudly serves the Iethka people of Alberta, comprising the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations. Nestled up against the Rocky Mountains in all three of our communities, our school board educates approximately 1100 students from preschool to grade 12.

Mini Thni, 30 minutes west of Calgary: Nakoda Elementary School (Preschool to grade 5) and Mini Thni Community School (Grade 6 to grade 12).


Eden Valley, 30 minutes south of Calgary: Chief Jacob Bearspaw School (Preschool to Grade 12). Teacher housing is available.


Big Horn, 70 minutes west of Rocky Mountain House: TaOtha Community School (Preschool to grade 9). Teacher housing is available.

We are hiring for a Special Education Teaching Position at Mini Thni Community School.


Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. Your role will involve creating and implementing individualized program plans, collaborating with other educators and professionals, and ensuring a positive and inclusive learning

environment.


Duties:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IPPs) for students with special needs

  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the unique learning styles and abilities of each student

  • Provide direct instruction in various subjects, including math, language arts, and science

  • Utilize specialized teaching strategies and techniques to support student engagement and progress

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and other professionals to ensure effective inclusion of students with special needs in the general education setting

  • Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and data collection

  • Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusivity, and academic growth

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support




Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Education (Special Education desirable)

- Valid teaching certification in Education

- Experience working with children, particularly in an educational setting

- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

- Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and other professionals

- Experience in First Nations Education highly desirable
