Stoney Education Authority (SEA) proudly serves the Iethka people of Alberta, comprising the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations. Nestled up against the Rocky Mountains in all three of our communities, our school board educates approximately 1100 students from preschool to grade 12.

Mini Thni, 30 minutes west of Calgary: Nakoda Elementary School (Preschool to grade 5) and Mini Thni Community School (Grade 6 to grade 12).

Eden Valley, 30 minutes south of Calgary: Chief Jacob Bearspaw School (Preschool to Grade 12). Teacher housing is available.

Big Horn, 70 minutes west of Rocky Mountain House: TaOtha Community School (Preschool to grade 9). Teacher housing is available.

We are hiring a Student Success Teacher for TaOtha Community School

Job Summary:

The Student Success Teacher (SST) will work in each school as a member of the Diversified Learning Department. This is a new role within the SEA for all schools. The SST holds a current Alberta Teaching Certificate and will support and collaborate with classroom teachers in the areas of: accommodations; IPP development and implementation; differentiation; triage of student supports such as Speech; OT; Literacy

Intervention; Wellness. This list is not exhaustive.


● Implement and monitor targeted interventions as advised by therapists and classroom teams.

● Assist with the application of Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and assistive technologies.

● Address urgent student needs under administrative guidance.

● Personalize resource implementation to maximize student success and wellbeing.

● Facilitate the development of IPPs through family consultations and collaborative planning with

teachers and therapists.

● Manage referrals and evaluate the student needs to optimize educational plans, including safety,

behavior, and support strategies.

● Aid staff in applying inclusive educational practices and adaptations based on individual student assessments.

● Provide ongoing support in the use and integration of universal design for learning and modified programming.

● Maintain knowledge of current best practices and research in special education.

● Communication and Collaboration:

● Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams to support student intervention plans.

● Coordinate with educational and community partners to support comprehensive student care.

● Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure a unified approach to student education and support.

● Attend necessary meetings to support continuous student success and program effectiveness.

● Liaise regularly with the Director of Diversified Learning to update on student progress and program efficacy.

This role requires a proactive, collaborative professional committed to enhancing educational outcomes for students with special needs through comprehensive support and strategic planning. ● Experience working in First Nations schools is highly desirable.

● Comprehensive understanding of child development and diverse learning requirements.

● Hands-on experience with students of diverse learning backgrounds.

● Familiarity with working alongside Indigenous students and/or communities.

● Proven track record in devising and executing Individual Program Plans.

● Passionate about cultivating an inclusive and diverse educational setting.

● Exceptional organizational and time management proficiencies.

● Competence in employing evidence-based instructional tactics and interventions.

● Demonstrates respect and upholds the confidentiality of school community members.

● Capable of fostering trust and building connections with students, faculty, families, and other stakeholders.

● Skilled in analyzing, adapting to, and addressing complex student needs creatively.

● Outstanding communication, cooperation, and interpersonal abilities.

Education and Certifications:

Bachelor of Education & valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. Considered an asset but not a requirement :

Master’s degree in education or special education.
